In Dusk, Night, Dawn, Anne Lamott explores the tough questions that many of us grapple with. How can we recapture the confidence we once had as we stumble through the dark times that seem increasingly bleak? As bad newspiles up—from climate crises to daily assaults on civility—how can we cope? Where, she asks, “do we start to get our world and joy and hope and our faith in life itself back . . . with our sore feet, hearing loss, stiff fingers, poor digestion, stunned minds, broken hearts?”
We begin, Lamott says, by accepting our flaws and embracing our humanity.
Drawing from her own experiences, Lamott shows us the intimate and human ways we can adopt to move through life’s dark places and toward the light of hope that still burns ahead for all of us.
Hey friends, here you can sign-up for our forthcoming Sophia Reading Group on Anne Lamott’s Dusk, Night, Dawn. Tim and Karen will lead discussions around the various parts of the book, and the reading group discussions will run in the following two formats. Please indicate on the signup form below which option you would like to choose.
1. Zoom Discussion Groups on Sunday nights from 7:00 - 8:30 PM.
2. Live Backyard Discussion Groups of 5 or more at a coordinated time of your choosing with pre-recorded video introductions for conversation (please contact Karen or Tim if you'd like to coordinate this option).
Zoom Discussion groups will be on:
10.9 - Prologue, Ch. 1 & 2 (pp. 1 - 58)
10.23 - Ch. 3, 4, & 5 (pp. 59 - 112)
10.30 - Ch. 6 & 7 (pp. 113 - 152)
11.13 - Ch. 8, 9, & Coda (pp. 152 - 210)
Dates for backyard hosts will be forthcoming! Please indicate if you’d like to be in a backyard group in the sign-up form, and we will contact you. Thanks!
For this group, you will need to secure your own copy of the book. This Sophia Group will FREE, as the nature of the conversations around this book will be more conversational in terms of what stands out to each individual, rather than creating course-like content around the book. Both the Zoom group, and backyard groups will be mostly self-led, with some gentle guiding questions from Tim and Karen. If you’re interested in conversations around beauty, hope, and resilience, then you won’t want to miss out on this book study!
***To sign-up for this group, you will just need to fill out the form and click subscribe. Thanks!***
